Simone de Beauvoir On The Circle Line
by Ali Jones
Chatting to some of my children’s friends about that difficult moment when you finally leave education. I told them I moved to London with no job, sofa surfing, feeling lost. On a particularly empty day I would take my book and travel round the Circle line reading it. Then one little opportunity came along, then another, and suddenly I had a purposeful life. And that it’s ok and really normal to feel a bit adrift sometimes.
Alison Jones has played fiddle for many bands including The Barely Works. Swansea born, Alison now lives in Exeter where she plays with Spin 2, teaches fiddle and leads a large community band, Newtown roots band, for which she creates fun and interesting arrangements. Writing tunes is an ongoing passion for Alison and she loves how a tune takes on a life of its own when it is played by others.
