Loki

by Fiona Ewart

This tune is inspired by the mischievous Norse God Loki as well as my younger son who has a similar name and was hilariously mischievous when he was smaller. The tune jumps from major to minor and also flits about in a mischievous way reminding me of the halcyon days of small children trying to outwit their parents. When I play it I usually end on a final A part of the tune as it feels happier and resolved that way.

Fiona Ewart is originally from Australia, and has been living in the Newcastle upon Tyne for the last 25 years. She played piano and violin in her childhood and has always loved harmony and arranging music. She was introduced to folk music when she started going to the Sage Newcastle Tuesday night Folkworks sessions 15 years ago and has been playing folk music ever since. She now plays melodeon in a folk quartet called Scalpay, and in the Phoenix Chamber Folk Ensemble.
