From the Headlands to the Heartlands
by Jane Williams
This song began as a tune that was part of a collection of pieces describing a journey. In my student days I decided to discover Scotland and took a train to Glasgow, where I stayed for a few days. There was a wonderful pub there, “Na Cead Mile Failte” which had a constant jam session going on. This tune is the starting point where the train eases out of Swansea without really picking up pace until past Cardiff.
Originally from the UK, Jane now lives and works in Norway. She grew up with and around folk music and started composing very early on. Her influences are all the greats from the 70’s and 80’s. Jane’s main instrument is guitar and she also plays harp, fiddle, keyboard and whistle. She lives in Tromsø in the far north of Norway and is part of a lively folk group which performs regularly for tourists and events.
