Gini’s Tune

by Jacquelyn Hynes

Gini’s Tune was written in 2008 for my friend Virginia Marsado. She had told me as a young girl she used to ride a white horse along a Spanish beach, and I imagined her as a young girl, her dark hair flying, galloping across the strand. It was recorded on my 2014 album “Silver and Wood” (Proper Records) and reviewed as “superb” (Ben Townsend, Sunday Express).

Jacquelyn is best known as a flute player but also plays piano and sax and composes. Her album “Silver and Wood” was released to critical acclaim in 2014. She has performed world-wide and toured as guest artist with Liam Ó Maonlaí. Her work has been broadcast on RTE, R4, R3, Resonance FM and around the world. Jacquelyn is Associate Professor in Folk, Roots and Blues at Leeds Conservatoire and resident traditional flute and whistle tutor at the Irish Cultural Centre, Hammersmith. She is also Artist in Residence with the London Irish Pensioners’ Choir with whom she performed at RTE’s Ireland 100 Concert at RDS Dublin, 2023.
